a small update on pre-orders for Wandering Wonderful

Just a quick update to let those of you who have pre-ordered Wandering Wonderful know that the publisher has indicated there are delays with printing. I don’t have an exact print and ship date at this time, but am informed that the printer needs a couple of weeks.

I am hoping (because I am very anxious to finally hold this chapbook in my hands) that we will see copies ship out by the end of the month.

My eternal thanks for your patience and understanding. I am told that I will receive an email when copies begin to ship. I’ll post a quick follow-up at that time.

Giveaway Winner Announcement!

Friday marked the end of the pre-sales period and I received the final sales update from the publisher just this morning. Everyone who purchased a copy by the pre-order period end date had their name plugged into an Excel worksheet and a number attributed to their name. Using Excel’s super fun RANDOMBETWEEN function, one name was selected as the recipient of the book’s cover art printed to a 20″ x 30″ canvas.

I am very pleased to announce that the winner is none other than Betty Hayes Albright! Betty is a wonderful poet who blogs over at Seasonings. If you’re not familiar with her work, I highly recommend popping over to her blog. Congratulations, Betty! Your art print will be on its way to you sometime this week.

A very sincere thank you to everyone who has supported me over the past 10 years of writing this poetry blog.

With much love and gratitude,
Sarah

Chapbook Release Giveaway Update – 10 Days Left!

Just a quick post this morning to say thank you! to everyone who has jumped in and pre-ordered my newest chapbook, Wandering Wonderful. Pre-orders have an immense impact during the pre-sales period since this will help to determine the press run (number of copies to be printed) in May. So again, thank you! I am truly blessed.

This brings me to the giveaway update! I wanted to share an actual photo of the cover art printed to canvas, which will be sent to one wonderful reader. Anyone who pre-orders a copy of the book by March 22nd either via Finishing Line Press, or directly through me will qualify. One name will be randomly selected once I receive the final pre-sales update from the publisher.

With much gratitude,
Sarah

uproarious – excerpt from Wandering Wonderful

to say that a landscape
can never be clamorous

disregards the wild
hearts within it,

forgets the crows
and casts no winds

an outlook is only
sometimes peaceful,

and mostly uproarious

My newest chapbook Wandering Wonderful is now available for pre-order from Finishing Line Press. Pre-orders through March 22nd will have an opportunity to win a canvas print of the cover art. Click for details!

early snow – excerpt from Wandering Wonderful

an early snow this year

icy and hard, it woke me –
hissing and insistent
through the crack in the sill

the dogs both dig deeper
into my side, settle once more,
and sigh – little heart-furnaces

The weather this year has been hard on the dogs and little Angus especially is feeling his age lately. But it’s amazing what comfort a dog can bring into a life – and I am blessed to have both of them for as long as I may.

My newest chapbook Wandering Wonderful is now available for pre-order from Finishing Line Press. Pre-orders through March 22nd will have an opportunity to win a canvas print of the cover art. Click for details!

Wandering Wonderful – New Chapbook Announcement

This has been a long time coming for me, so I am extra pleased to be able to announce my forthcoming new chapbook via Finishing Line Press, Wandering Wonderful. Copies are available for pre-order through the Finishing Line Press website and will begin to ship out in mid-May. Click on the link here to take a peek: Wandering Wonderful

It has been six years since the publication of my first chapbook, so for those of you who have been asking about another, thank you for bearing with me and for continuing to support me with your kind praise and words of encouragement. I am blessed to have been surrounded by such a talented community of poets, writers, artists, and fellow wanderers. Much love to you!

Also, for anyone interested, I have meandered over into Instagram territory. Look for @hikeswithbooks if you are so inclined (you may just see a few different photos of my hiking adventures than you would on the blog).

With a full and grateful heart,
Sarah

Another Giveaway!

The crows are nesting, the violets are blooming, the dogwood is budding, and I spent part of my Saturday reading on the porch in a glorious bit of sunshine.

It’s Spring! At least it is here in the great Pacific Northwest. And I’ve decided to do another giveaway of my chapbook No Direction But Home in order to celebrate.

This time, the giveaway is being hosted by Goodreads.com, which if you’re not a part of I highly recommend joining. If you’re an author, it’s a great tool to help promote your book. If you’re an avid reader, it’s a wonderful way to find reviews, new releases, follow authors you enjoy, and just generally wallow in bookish heaven.

You can enter the giveaway through March 17th by clicking below or by clicking on the Goodreads Giveaway link in the right sidebar.

Best of luck and happy reading! And if Spring hasn’t gotten to your neck of the woods yet – don’t worry, it’s coming!

Somebunny’s Shifting Gears

Blue Bunny

I’ve been finding it difficult to juggle writing for the blog vs. writing for a possible new chapbook (hence the rather sporadic posts lately). So I’ve decided to give myself a break this year. For 2015 (or at least for most of it), I’ve decided to use the blog as more of a poet’s journal and actual finished pieces will be few and far between. Instead I’ll share some of the WIPs and little snippets I jot down which eventually become poems. And of course, little watercolor sketches and photos here and there. I think this will take some of the pressure off and I’ll be able to focus a bit more on finished pieces for the chapbook.

Oh yes – and do say hello to Moby over there on the left. Val, who is a lovely artist living in Wales, offered the name as a joke and it sort of stuck. Moby was originally going to be added to the pile of charity donations which will be boxed up and sent off to brighten up some little one’s day, but I felt his limbs might be too easily pulled off (poor Moby) so he’s been left on a friend’s doorstep with the below note. I think he’ll very much enjoy his new home.

Have a beautiful 2015, my friends!

No Direction But Home – Book Release!

If you’ve been with me for any length of time, you’ll know that one of the main reasons I began this blog was to rediscover my creative side – something I felt I had lost along the way. It’s been a journey. And as with any journey, sometimes you end up in a rather unexpected place. It’s all just part of the adventure, my friends.

Here’s where my journey has led me… the publication of my very first chapbook, No Direction But Home via ALL CAPS PUBLISHING.

I am two parts terrified, and two parts proud – but entirely ready for the adventure. No Direction But Home can be purchased here (or by clicking the picture above).

Want a signed copy? Use the Paypal button I’ve set up below – eventually I will add a page to the blog with access to this option as well. (Be sure to indicate who you would like it inscribed to!)

Also, go and check out ALL CAPS PUBLISHING – there are some fabulous authors ready for you to read and more on the way!

Thank you! thank you! thank you! to all of you for the support you’ve shown me over the past 4 1/2 years. I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t in part for your kindness.

And a special thank you to Marian, who thought I was worthy.
