somewhere else

today everything I know
is somewhere else

except that the ivy has been
trying to come through window

I remember the last time
I crawled through a window

that was Mexico though,
with the moon low over the sea

and the slow procession of
turtles moving up the beach

today everything I want to know
is somehow elsewhere

tangled up in the pink
of the bougainvillea

hope

this window is just
the idea of sky

in the same way hands
merely suggest caress

human hearts imagine
more than what is given

this ceaseless
invocation is hope

and is the reason for
so many moon songs

bumblebees

so many bumblebees,
the locust flowers
tremble in delight –
my window is open
wide to wonder!

I do love the locust tree outside my window. The flowers are just beginning to fade and fall, but it’s still abuzz with fat little bumblebees all day and in the evening the Anna’s hummingbirds come for their share of the sweet. So fun to watch them! To top it all off, there’s a squirrel nest in the tree and near dusk, the whole family of them scampers past along the power line on their way home. Lucky, lucky, lucky me.

If you haven’t seen the crow news lately – go and check it out! Exciting stuff happening!
