that silver morning at Shi Shi,
the chill we rose to a mere shade
of the deeper cold to come
we’d had visitors in the night,
our tents encircled by prints –
two sets surveying our strangeness
then breaking away to wander
to the edge of the sea,
twining in close loops together
we followed with our coffee
trailing steam from our mugs –
careful not to efface the evidence

I love the image of nighttime sleuths examining you and then slipping away before dawn. Gorgeous. James.

It joins us to each other, doesn’t it? One creature to another, whatever the species. Lovely.

I really like the image of you following the footprints without effacing them. Lovely poem, Sarah. ❤️

Wonderful on every level–sounds, sense, imagery. The observation, the appreciation and acceptance. And the coffee trailing steam! I can see it like I was there.

I’m sure you’ve been reading my stuff long enough to know I love wordplay. And also you’re well smart enough to see what you did there”. I hope the move is not too stressful.

I have been known to question the sanity of people who do not enjoy a good pun every now and again. 🙂 Thank you!
