when, as now, the city leans too close –
all cloying constructs, relentless cement
send to me a comfort of simple pine,
send to me an endurance of wind-bent cedar,
give to me the remoteness of ridgelines
and a full solace of placid tarns
what Muir meant made blazingly clear
with each leaden municipal minute
wildness is a necessity

“with each leaden municipal minute”
That is a great line…

Frank Lloyd Wright said “The good building is not one that hurts the landscape, but one which makes the landscape more beautiful than it was before the building was built.” Not much of that kind of building going on in this country.

Hello Sarah. I too enjoyed this greatly. In part that’s because of the sentiments which so many people share, but I’d like to say that I also enjoyed the way you composed this poem. The lines have economy and freshness, and a natural voice. Congratulations!
